Creating Moments That Matter: Lessons from the Road
Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of performing for an incredible range of audiences from C-suite executives at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas to gifted students in Austin, TX, from fundraisers in San Diego to leadership teams in Salt Lake City, and from trade-show attendees in Washington D.C. to private celebrations in Los Angeles.
Each event is different, yet the feeling I walk away with is always the same: connection.
Whether it’s a boardroom, a ballroom, or a classroom, the true magic isn’t in the tricks, it’s in the shared reactions that ripple through the room. Laughter. Wonder. Curiosity. Those moments remind me why live experiences still matter so deeply in a world filled with digital noise.
Every Audience, One Reaction
Magician & mentalist, Lou Serrano floating a table at Lake Travis Performing Arts Center in Austin, TX.
Last week I performed at the Lake Travis High School Performing Arts Center in Austin for the Gifted & Talented students of Lake Travis ISD. They had just finished studying Pepper’s Ghost , the 19th-century illusion that makes ghostly figures appear on stage, and were eager to connect science and psychology with real-world magic.
Watching their faces light up as they realized how perception shapes reality reminded me of something I see at every event, whether it’s students, executives, or families: people love to be amazed together. It’s that shared moment of wonder that brings people closer.
What I’ve Learned from the Road as a Corporate Magician
After performing in cities like Austin, Washington D.C.., Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Dallas, and San Diego, I’ve come to realize a few timeless truths about what makes an experience unforgettable:
Connection beats perfection.
The moments that people remember most aren’t the flawless illusions, they’re the genuine, unscripted reactions between people. A spontaneous laugh, a surprised gasp, a glance exchanged between strangers.
Shared wonder breaks barriers.
In corporate settings, hierarchy tends to disappear the moment something truly astonishing happens. Suddenly, the CFO and the intern are both leaning forward in disbelief; equal participants in the same human experience.
Every event has a ripple effect.
A great performance doesn’t end when the lights go down. It lingers in conversations, in relationships, and often, in future opportunities. One show leads to another because authentic connection has a way of multiplying.

The Real Magic
My role as a magician and mentalist has never been just to entertain. It’s to create the kind of experiences that people talk about long after the event ends; the moments that make people say, “You had to be there.”
That’s what keeps me inspired: the realization that no matter who we are or where we come from, we all crave the same thing… connection. The magic is simply the bridge that brings us there.

Final Thought
Every city, every client, and every audience teaches me something new. But the biggest lesson is always the same: when people come together to share a moment of wonder, something special happens, something real, something human, and something we’ll all remember long after the curtain falls.
